Yesterday my Hubby and i made the decision to put my Dog Xena to sleep today.( We don't need a appointment for it.You just walk in) I can not watch her suffering any longer. I would not be surprised if the Vet tells us we waited to long and we made her suffer. She is half blind, she barley can hear and she can not hold it long enough to go to the Bathroom. I know she has arthritis for a while now and we gave her pills for that. I could deal with that but ever since she had a operation to remove a few Tumors she started having problems with her back legs. It got really bad the last few weeks. Her back legs just don't want to work. She can not get them up. When we try to help her all she does is cries in pain. So she slides on her behind and cries and this is how she makes it outside. Her back legs just don't work. Xena is laying right next to me right now. That's all what she is doing all day and night long, just laying around. She does not have the energy to get up. I am trying to come up with a reason to keep her longer but i can not find a single one. She would be 14 years old in September and i had her since she is 6 weeks old. Knowing she will not be here after today hurts so darn much. She was my first dog ever, she is my baby. I hope there is a better place where our pet's go after they leave this place.

your Xena looks so much like my beloved Sheba, I had to make the same decision as you as she was riddles with cancer, and it is such a hard decision to make but it was kinder to let her go than keep her, and yes it hurts so much. This is a poem that helped me, I hope it helps you a little too...

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
